Q&A With South Central LA’s Very Own Wealthy Robando

Yo Wealthy Robando!! We are extremely prideful when we expose fresh/new Hip Hop artists like yourself !! Please tell us a bit about yourself,  and how long have you been making Hip Hop!

first off they call me Wealthy Robando I’m 24 years young representing South Central LA out the WestMont area 110th and Normanide to be exact. I first started rappin when I was 17 . I was just free styling drinking and smoking on the block with the homies beatin on my chest and car makin beats just having fun . I wasn’t really on my shit I was too busy in these LA streets running a muck.

Please let us know when was was your first time actually recording and making music? Also, give us a main factors on why/how you decided to become an Hip Hop artist? Any major influences let say?

first time like actually recording was when I was 17 met a dealer and he told me about his boy next door who had a studio. so I knocked on his door and told him west the deal he looked at me and laughed . I kept coming back till I got in after that it was a wrap. but I also found out how foos really be how grimey and janky after they saw I had potential they hit me with a contract and I said nah and laughed . After that I met scarecrow outta long beach and he let me get in the studio ever since then every chance I had to record I would take advantage and get in the booth.

Tell us about the underground Hip Hop scene out there in South Central?  And how has the south side of LA influenced you in any way?

I was always in the streets makin a quick buck and I would always dream about the studio
about the instrumentals the shows . the main factors that made me a artist was the lifestyle I’m living and I wanted people to know bout my city my struggles my come ups my downs the TRUTH. that’s why I became a artist I wanted the whole world to know bout the 110. plus everybody told me I was ill just had to polish the pen and I did and never looked back.

My major influences would have to be my big brother chino and my block they the reason I started this rap shit
the underground hiphop scene in south central LA is just what LA is known best for GOOD WEED GANGBANGING AND THE LAVISH LIFESTYLE . Everybody wanna get rep till they catch wreck , out here if you rap bout it be about it cause you will get tested bar for bar . the scene now is about great music and if you can back it everything you rap about

I can say The South Side is the Best side , growing up in the city is just a whole other world
you got to sleep to sirens and wake up to gunshots. walk down the block and get held up by the police for no reason . had to watch yo back for the enemies and had to pray before you walk out that door cause you don’t know whats gonna happen once you out that gate . These South LA streets made me and raised me and that’s why I rap about what I do seen and lived.

Please breakdown the creative process of your new “Expectations” EP? Wicked cover art btw! How did you end up coming up with that EP cover art??

EXPECTATIONS was a EP about how people see me and what they expect from my music there’s a lot that expect me to become this rap super star successful and on my game and there’s others that expect me to fail in the worst way and not win .I talk about the block how I grew up about my homies just doing everything and anything to get out the hood. my son was born when I was workin on this Ep ,late nights with my son in the studio actually recorded Stay Down with my son in my arms. I dedicated this ep to my son my block and those who not with me they forever live thru my music the day in the life on the 110 block . all produced by Causes aka Kinny Torres.

The cover art was made by my boy EddieBands he actually from my area he from 112th block his work is dope and professional and also I had to keep it Scity .

I came up with the cover idea with pictures of my block my cousin Tayry who passed away last year my son my come ups and struggles and my boy eddie put it all together and represent for the west
drip brought to you by RNW GARMENTS

How often do you perform LIVE!? have you ever been on tour?

I perform when ever the opportunity is given to me free shows paid shows whatever it don’t matter to me house partys underground gigs open mikes festivals a show is a show . ive never been on tour I only had to chance to rock a show at sxsw 2018 which was a real dope experience especially because I did it all independent. But I will be touring real soon coming to hood near you.

What you got cooking next? Anything special for the last quarter of the year!!??

Yes I have singles and colabs droppin with artist from all over and workin with producers from all over as well also music videos for my EXPECTATIONS ep and other tracks will be droppin finishing this year strong stay tuned.

Our most popular question, what is your definition of “Underground Hip Hop”?

The definition of underground hip hop to me is being genuine and not stealing styles or rhymes being real and true to the art . don’t front and don’t be a sell out underground is the definition of rugged hiphop real lyricism where you don’t care what the critics have to say stay loyal to your fans and most importantly YOURSELF.
