Name: Mariel Greenlee
Residence: Mass Ave
Occupation: dancer / choreographer at Dance Kaleidoscope
Where did you grow up? Upstate New York
What is your earliest memory of a noticeable interest in fashion?
I remember noticing the ’80s scrunch socks and leg warmers.

Who or what influences your style?
I enjoy trends that I see in magazines, and I’m inspired by trips to NYC and red carpet events. I’m also a sucker for old movies and the female icons of ages past.

Describe your personal style in four words or one phrase.
Classic, feminine, clean lines.

What’s your go-to item in your closet?
A dress or jeans and a nice top with heels, primarily solid colors or simple prints preferred.

Who are some of your favorite designers, and what do you like about their designs?
Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia is one of my favorites. She is the perfect mix of funky and classic for me. When I “grow up” I plan to live in Eileen Fisher- I love her simplicity and comfort. For famous designers (that I can’t afford) I also enjoy Carolina Herrera; very classic and feminine, and I love her name. And I love Stella McCartney, who I find tastefully glamorous.

What makes you want to stay in Indy?
Indy feels like it’s in a major growing phase, and it’s exciting to be a young person in a city you feel that you can help shape and make a difference moving forward, also the low cost of living.

What trends are you noticing?

Prints. Particularly plaids, florals and corduroys for fall.

What’s next for you? What short and long term goals are on your list?
I’m dancing in DKs upcoming show October 25th-29th, called Music of the Night. I am also choreographing The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Anthaneum, Urinetown at Marion University, The Christmas Carol at Indiana Repertory Theatre, as well as A Very Phoenix Xmas at the Phoenix Theater. It’s going to be a busy fall!

I would also like to increase the scope and frequency of my freelance choreography work and hopefully expand to further markets.

How would you define fashion?

The style dominating a particular time in history.

Worst fashion trend:
Crushed velvet

Best fashion trend:
Plaid

Last but certainly not least, name your favorite fashion icon.
Audrey Hepburn
