Candace Owens Leaves The Daily Wire Following Clash With Ben Shapiro, X Users Spot The Rebrand Jig

Source: Jason Davis / Getty / Candace Owens

Candace Owen’s relationship with The Daily Wire is over, and now X users are connecting the dots and feel she is using Black Press to get back in our good graces.

Per the Daily Mail, edgeless conservative Candace Owens and The Daily Wire are done. Per the website’s reporting, her exit comes after clashing with the company’s co-founder, Ben Shapiro, over the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Co-founder and CEO Jeremy Boreing announced the split with Owens in a post on X, formerly Twitter, simply writing, “Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship.”

Owens confirmed her exit by responding, “The rumors are true— I am finally free,” in a post on her X account that also hilariously points her followers to a webpage to “support her work” or “give her a gift.”

The grift never ends with these people.

X Users See The Jig With Candace Owens

Anyway, the news of Owen’s exit from The Daily Wire, which was the home of her now-defunct talk show Candace, Owens has been making her rounds on more traditional Black outlets in what many have been calling a “rebrand.”

Owens has sat down with Joe Budden for a one-on-one interview, much to the chagrin of social media who feel people like Budden lack the skills to sit across from a person like Candace Owens, who has the propensity to push narratives that require pushback and extreme amounts of fact-checking.

Just recently, The Breakfast Club, for whatever reason, brought Owens on their show to spew her nonsense, and yes, like Budden, many feel the Power 105.1 morning show crew lacks the interviewing skills to handle her.

Also, now there are many clips of Owens landing on timelines where people agree with her outrageous talking points.

We here at HipHopWired are not buying what Candace Owens is selling.

In the gallery below, you can see more reactions to Candace Owens trying to rebrand herself.

HBO Drops Dueling ‘House Of The Dragon’ Trailers For 2nd Season

House Of The Dragon

Source: HBO / HBO

When Game of Thrones ended their riveting 8-year run with a lackluster and disappointing final season in 2019, many fans were skeptical of HBO’s planned prequel series, House of the Dragon as we were still salty about how things played out in the original adaptation to George R.R. Martin’s brainchild.

Interestingly enough the series not only surprised critics with an enticing and exciting storyline, but left fans wanting more after it’s debut in 2022, and more we shall get as HBO released it’s first teaser trailer for the second season to their newest hit show.

Picking up where season one left off, the new teaser trailer to House of the Dragon which asks fans to choose a side in the upcoming war between King Aegon’s Green Council and the Black Council which is that of Queen Rhaenyra. Though we have an idea of how this will end given that Game of Thrones takes place hundreds of years later and basically spelled out the events of this feud, we still can’t wait to see it play out before our very eyes as we’ve learned that drama and dragons go pretty well together.

To amp up the upcoming season, HBO dropped a few dueling trailers to get fans to choose a side (black or green) and we just know that if Wesley Snipes was here he’d say “Always bet on Black” but in this case, it’s kind of a tossup.

With that being said, when the hell is HBO gonna give us an update on that Jon Snow spinoff series that we were promised two years ago?? We desperately want to see what the OG King of The North is up to after killing his queen/lover/aunt, Daenerys Targaryen. Just sayin.’

Check out the trailers for House of the Dragon and let us know if you’re as amped as we are about the second season in the comments section below.

Kendrick Lamar Brings Back “Control” Vibes With “Like That” Feature On ‘WE DON’T TRUST YOU’

J.Cole

Kendrick Lamar put the Hip-Hop world on notice after dropping a verse on “Like That” from Future and Metro Boomin‘s new WE DON’T TRUST YOU project. K-Dot revisited his “Control” verse days and restored the feeling after aiming shots at Drake and J. Cole while declaring himself the best among the so-called “Big Three.”

Kendrick Lamar has been spending more time focused on his pgLang brand and assisting the career of his cousin, Baby Keem to great effect. The former TDE standout has often been mentioned in the same tier as Drake and J. Cole, with many thinking the trio would clique up one day and shift the entire ecosystem.

K-Dot put those hopes and dreams to rest on “Like That” and didn’t mince words at all. Some are of the mind that Lamar has taken subliminal shots from Drizzy over the years, in particular, related to their status within the Hip-Hop hierarchy.

From “Like That”:

“Okay, let’s get it up, it’s time for him to prove that he’s a problem/N*ggas clickin’ up, but cannot be legit, no 40 Water, tell ’em/Ah, yeah, huh, yeah, get up with me/F*ck sneak dissin’, first person shooter, I hope they came with three switches/I crash out, like, “F*ck rap,” diss Melle Mel if I had to”

In a bid to distance himself from the pack, Lamar added, “Motherf*ck the big three, n*gga, it’s just big me” which left nothing to the imagination.

This isn’t the first time Kendrick Lamar caused a stir. Back in 2013 on Big Sean’s “Control,” Kung Fu Kenny named names and essentially dared everyone to try his pen and had people not even involved in the jabs responding to the verse. Time will tell if Drake or J. Cole will respond, considering the latter has always represented his connection to Lamar as friendly.

Again, this could also be traced to a perceived beef between Future and Drake, although that hasn’t been confirmed. Further, Metro Boomin has had recent issues with the Canadian superstar that went public, adding to the lore of discord between them all.

On X, formerly Twitter, folks are chiming in about Kendrick Lamar’s jabs toward Drake and J. Cole. Check out the reactions below.

‘Dragon’s Dogma 2’ A Fantastic Journey Still In Progress

'Dragon's Dogma 2' Review In Progress

Source: Capcom / Dragon’s Dogma 2

Coming into Dragon’s Dogma 2, I didn’t know what to expect, as I had never played the first game. However, after previewing the game and eventually embarking on the adventure, it has become a serious contender for one of the best games of the year.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a sequel 12 years in the making, but honestly, looking at it, you would think the game was made for the PS3 console, like its predecessor, due to its dated graphics, but don’t let that fool you; this is a worthy successor.

As soon as the game begins, you learn of the plot’s political implications and how your fully customizable Arisen’s role in that story will not really take shape until about 15 hours into the game.

But the main point of this game is the adventure you and your Pawns will embark on, and the developers went out of their way to emphasize your experience, especially during my review.

I did not finish my Dragon’s Dogma 2 playthrough before writing this review, so it will be an in-progress review. Still, I have spent a reasonable amount of time playing the game and will share my thoughts on my fantastic journey so far; once I finish the game, I plan on revisiting this review to give my final thoughts.

An Expansive World To Explore

Dragon's Dogma 2

Source: Capcom / Dragon’s Dogma 2

Most of your time will be spent in Vernworth, a city teaming with life. Plenty of NPCs offer quests, small tasks, and shops where you can spend your hard-earned gold.

Where this game shines is when you venture outside of the city into the open world that is full of dangerous monsters. This requires you to plan your routes because fas travel is limited and how many items you plan to take with you. In this game, there is a weight system (I am no fan of them), but it requires you to carefully think about how you tackle quests, which adds a fun and unique challenge to the game.

Fast travel is minimal; you have to find statues in different towns and activate them. Then, you can use Ferrystones, which have to be found, to travel quickly to those locations.

But if you don’t have Ferrystones, you can either travel by foot or by Ox and carriage, which can be attacked on your way to a location.

During your travels, if you get caught out in the open world at night, you can find a campsite to cook meat to gain buffs and rest until daylight. Your slumber can also be interrupted by ghouls, goblins, or whatever creatures that game happens to throw your way.

There is so much fun in using the map to plot your course to your location because there are no shortcuts, mainly because your character cannot swim, and falling into water causes permanent death thanks to a creature called the blight infesting the world’s waters.

Combat Kicks Ass

Dragon's Dogma 2

Source: Capcom / Dragon’s Dogma 2

Like other action RPGs, there is no one way to play Dragon’s Dogma 2. The game offers different playstyles in the form of Vocations, which are the warrior classes in the game.

At the game’s start, players must choose from four primary Vocations: Archer, Fighter, Mage, and Thief. If you play long enough, you earn advanced versions of the main four: Magik Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Sorcerer, Warrior, Trickster, and Wayfarer.

Each presents a different gameplay style; you can change your Vocations during your runs, so you’re not stuck with your initial pick.

Combat in the game is fun, super responsive, and rewarding. Instead of trying to avoid fights, I found myself running towards them with the utmost confidence, knowing my trusty Pawns would help me handle business.

The smaller foes like goblins, giant lizards, or wolves present a challenge when they attack in packs, but the real fun occurs when battling giants like ogres, minotaurs, griffins, dragons, and more.

There are moments during those battles when the giant beasts can either be pushed off balance or dazed enough for your Arisen and pawns to climb on top of them and pound on them.

Thoughts So Far…

Dragon's Dogma 2

Source: Capcom / Dragon’s Dogma 2

So far, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has my full undivided attention at a time when another action RPG in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is also vying for our time.

This is my Elden Ring, a game I can see myself fully committing to and seeing through because I am enjoying my time with the game.

The combat system is fun, the Vocations add variety to your playthrough, the story is engaging enough, and I also appreciate your approaches to taking on quests that do come with consequences.

For example, some quests have time limits, so you must carefully map out your routes. For example, in one quest, I had to find a boy who went out to gather flowers. The route I took wound up being the long one, and by the time I got to him, he had met a fiery fate at the hands of some goblins.

I also love the Pawn system, which allows you to use another player’s created Pawns during your playthroughs. I was happy to learn that KindaFunny’s Greg Miller used my Pawn during his playthrough.

So, I will hold off on giving this final score, but right now, it’s shaping up to be a rare perfect game.

Too Much Chat, Not Enough Music: Azealia Banks Slammed On X For Beyoncé & Jay-Z Jabs

Dion Lee New York Fashion Week Party

Azealia Banks was once considered one of the best women rappers of her generation but has achieved more notoriety lately for her fiery rants against the culture. Once more, the Harlem artist aimed barbs at Beyoncé and Jay-Z, sparking outrage and criticism from the Beyhive and beyond.

Beyoncé put the world on notice after sharing details behind her upcoming studio album, Act II: Cowboy Carter, the highly anticipated follow-up to 2022’s Act I: Renaissance. The Houston superstar explained in detail the impetus behind the album and expressed gratitude for having her song “Texas Hold ‘Em” going No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the first Black woman to do so via a country music song.

Azealia Banks took to social media and had plenty to say about the rollout of the upcoming album, taking shots at Beyoncé’s husband in the process.

“Wow we didn’t even try to put even a little effort into a more artistic title?” Banks wrote via her Instagram Stories feed on March 19. “Sis I live for whiteyonce Donatella Bianca Bardot DOWN, But I’m kind of ashamed at how u switch from baobab trees and black parade to this literal pick me stuff.”

Banks added, “Like u do lame stuff like bring out some black listed white women (Dixie chicks) at the country music awards and they would never ever do the same for you. Ur always sharing ur platform with white women who are so jealous of you but have such a long history of sabotaging other black womens careers.”

Caught in the fray was Hov with Banks saying, “Ugh I’m so saddened by Jay-Z and his overstrategizing everything beyonce to the point where it’s clearly his influence and not the real Bianca Bardot. Someone tell Jayz his strategies are corny and beyonce has better ideas.”

Okay, then.

On X, formerly Twitter, reactions from all sides to the comments from Azealia Banks poured in. Some suggested that Banks focus on putting out new music while others agreed with some of her points, albeit some did so with reluctance.

We’ve got those reactions listed below.

DOJ Slaps Apple With Antitrust Lawsuit Over iPhone Monopoly, Android Users Say It’s About Time

Apple Hit With Landmark Antitrust Lawsuit By The DOJ

Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty / Apple / Tim Cook

In a stunning move, the DOJ is suing Apple over its iPhone ecosystem, and Android users are saying it’s about time.

Spotted on CNBC, the Department of Justice slapped Apple with a landmark antitrust lawsuit rocking the tech industry on Thursday, March 21.

The DOJ claims Apple used its iPhone ecosystem to drive its “astronomical valuation” at the expense of the consumers, developers, and rival smartphone makers.

Per CNBC:

The lawsuit claims that Apple’s anti-competitive practices extend beyond the iPhone and Apple Watch businesses, citing Apple’s advertising, browser, FaceTime, and news offerings.

“Each step in Apple’s course of conduct built and reinforced the moat around its smartphone monopoly,” says the suit, filed by the DOJ and 16 attorneys general in New Jersey federal court.

The Justice Department said in a release that to keep consumers buying iPhones, Apple moved to block cross-platform messaging apps, limited third-party wallet and smartwatch compatibility and disrupted non-App Store programs and cloud-streaming services.

The challenge represents a significant risk to Apple’s walled-garden business model. The company says that complying with regulations costs the company money, could prevent it from introducing new products or services, and could hurt customer demand.

A Breakdown of The Lawsuit Claims Against Apple

If the DOJ’s lawsuit is successful, it could force the Tim Cook-run company to make significant changes to its highly successful business model.

In a press conference announcing the lawsuit, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said, “As set out in our complaint, Apple has that power in the smartphone market. If left unchallenged. Apple will only continue to strengthen its smartphone monopoly.”

Per The Verge, the DOJ’s lawsuit accuses Apple of:

  • Disrupting “super apps” that encompass many different programs and could degrade “iOS stickiness” by making it easier for iPhone users to switch to competing devices
  • Blocking cloud-streaming apps for things like video games that would lower the need for more expensive hardware
  • Suppressing the quality of messaging between the iPhone and competing platforms like Android
  • Limiting the functionality of third-party smartwatches with its iPhones and making it harder for Apple Watch users to switch from the iPhone due to compatibility issues
  • Blocking third-party developers from creating competing digital wallets with tap-to-pay functionality for the iPhone

In a statement to CNBC, Apple did not agree with the lawsuit and said it would fight it.

A spokesperson for the tech giant told CNBC, “This lawsuit threatens who we are and the principles that set Apple products apart in fiercely competitive markets. If successful, it would hinder our ability to create the kind of technology people expect from Apple—where hardware, software, and services intersect. It would also set a dangerous precedent, empowering government to take a heavy hand in designing people’s technology.”

Android users have been eating this all up because of the claims they have accused Apple of for years.

Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash 2024 Artist Lineup Press Conference

Hot 107.9 has announced their upcoming annual Birthday Bash concert in a big way, with headliner artist Latto roaming Atlanta to spread the news.
One of Atlanta, Georgia’s, hottest events, Hot 107.9’s Birthday Bash is coming up soon (June 22). And the rap ingenue Latto took to the streets to ensure that everyone knows about the 2024 edition Birthday Bash and its lineup in style. The “Put It On The Floor Again” rapper rolled out with a caravan of 20 Black Suburban SUVs to announce the news of the concert to fans around the city on a bullhorn. She will be the first woman artist to ever headline the event.

The entire drive to the radio station was captured on video – including a pit stop at Walgreens so Latto could get her makeup fixed due to the high winds. The two-time Grammy Award nominated artist arrived with her entourage and spoke about what it means to be the headliner for the concert, which will be held at State Farm Arena Saturday, June 22. “I love my city, my city had my back,” Latto said before imploring listeners to get their tickets. Baby, I’m telling you now. Get your tickets now. Don’t be calling me,” she said as the crowd gathered in the studio laughed and cheered.

The Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash 2024 is high-powered when it comes to the lineup already announced. As mentioned before, Latto will be the headliner with special guests joining her onstage, fresh off of the buzz of her latest single “Sunday Service,” where she delivered some biting lyrics seemingly aimed at another rising rap star, Ice Spice. “These b—–es corny, soon as monkey see, then you know monkey do/ Do you rap or do you tweet?/ ‘Cause I can’t tell, get in the booth, b—h.” Also getting top billing will be Boosie, Hunxho, Killer Mike and Key Glock. The rest of the lineup is filled out by Tee Grizzley, Famous Sally & YB with more artists to be announced at a later date.

Behind The Scenes Of ‘Freaknik: The Wildest Story Never Told’

HipHopWired got the exclusive opportunity to talk with the filmmakers behind the highly anticipated Hulu documentary, Freaknik: The Wildest Story Never Told.

Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told

Source: Hulu / hulu

For those in the know, Freaknik was not just a party that gathered nearly every Black person down in Atlanta, Georgia, every spring, but it was a veritable cultural moment. When word broke late last year that there would be a documentary about Freaknik, many immediately wondered if it would focus only on the wildness that came to be associated with the event.

But in Freaknik: The Wildest Story Never Told, we get a clear-eyed and compelling account of Freaknik in all of its aspects thanks to testimony from numerous people including Jermaine Dupri and Luther “Uncle Luke Campbell” (who are executive producers), Lil Jon, 21 Savage and more.

HipHopWired got the chance to talk with producers Jay Allen, Nikki Byles and executive producer Terry “TR” Ross about their experiences in making this documentary and their perspective on Freaknik as it makes its premiere on Hulu March 21.

HipHopWired: How did this documentary project get onto your radar, and how were you all involved?

Jay Allen: So Nikki and I were a few years younger, and we didn’t get to attend Freaknik. But we’ve always heard the stories of Freaknik from family, cousins and friends. Because we live in Atlanta, we always talk about what it would have been like to be there. And then we realized that we wanted to really tell the story. So she and I put together a pitch deck. We put together a sizzle [reel], we got all that stuff together. And then we were trying to figure out what the next steps were. The first thing that Nikki did was, she got on the phone and got Uncle Luke involved.

Nikki Byles: I just happened to reach out to someone and said, “Hey, I need Luke and please let me talk to him.” And so based on that, we ended up telling him what we wanted, and he ended up flying to Atlanta to meet with us. And after we went over everything, he was like, “Yep, I’m on board. Let’s get it.” Then, we spoke with Terry, he added JD [Jermaine Dupri]. Because you definitely need both. And he looked for the ambassador of Freaknik. And you need JD for the music.

Terry “TR” Ross: Well, not only that, but you need JD because he’s one of the most pivotal people in Atlanta right now. So we needed him for that too, not just for the music. I mean, they call him the “mayor of Atlanta.”

Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told

Source: Hulu / hulu

Jay: Terry helped us fill in some of the gaps. So we went to LA, sat down in the studio with Terry, and just talked to him about what our vision was. And we told him we had Luke and this is what we’re trying to do. And from then, Terry jumped in and really helped us grow this thing, and also that we could start to take it to market.

Terry: So, basically they brought it to me. And I was extremely interested in it. I thought it was compelling. Because first and foremost, that was the reason why I moved to Atlanta, it was because of Freaknik. I had (Mayor) Kasim Reed – whom I went to Howard with in D.C., and I was from D.C. – Kasim Reed, he’s an Atlanta native. And he said, “You guys need to come to Atlanta for this thing called Freaknik.”

And we’d never heard of it, so we decided to go to Atlanta, and we put on this huge concert for Freaknik. And after that, it was just like, “Yo, I want to live here. I want to move here.” And so we decided to move there. This has come full circle because this is my first film project. Freaknik being the reason I moved to Atlanta, and Freaknik being the first film project I did was really amazing.

When Nikki and Jay brought it to me, I went, “This is something that needs to be told, because the story had never been told the right way.” I said that we need to get the people that have been in Atlanta that’s going to make the documentary where people are going to be authentic and really want to get into it. So me, Nikki and Jay, we met with JD, we met him at a Starbucks.

Jay: I want to highlight how we met him at the Starbucks. We met him outside of a Starbucks where Nikki sat on the ground and typed everything. Me and Terry pummeled him with questions, and it was in the middle of COVID and JD had like four masks on. (Laughs) All this happened in the middle of Atlanta in the middle of COVID.

Terry: Then we decided it would be best to, you know, get some of the tastemakers in Atlanta and start interviewing them. Who did we interview first, Chaka (Zulu)?

Jay: The first was Chaka after JD?

Nikki: Yeah, because we had to get them all in while TR was there.

Jay: Yeah, I think we had Kasim, Too Short, Kenny Burns –

Nikki: For some reason, I remember speaking to Mannie Fresh. (Laughs)

Jay: There were many people in there, yeah. (Laughs)

Terry: KP and Shanti Das, who was very instrumental in breaking OutKast because they broke in Atlanta during Freaknik. She was at LaFace [Records]. Rico Wade of Dungeon Family & Organized Noise.

Jay: You’re the only one getting this story. No one else has asked this, so just know this is an exclusive right here. (Laughs)

HipHopWired: So in terms of interviews and the experience of getting testimonials from folks that attended and those who were in opposition – what was that experience like talking to everyone and getting their recollections?

Jay: Before or after we started filming? Because that’s two different sets.

HipHopWired: After, because as you said with the teaser, there were those that were kind of wondering “Well, what’s going on? What is this going to be?”

Jay: I think when Terry talks about this – we weren’t passing out checks for people to be a part of this. Terry was really picking up the phone. Nikki was really picking up the phone. And these people were coming to sit and talk and tell us their Freaknik stories and help us piece it together. For the love. For the love of the people that have a relationship to it. And that’s how we were able to make the story come together.

Terry: Everybody’s story was different, especially Too Short’s, Lil Jon’s, and of course, JD. Because JD wasn’t even old enough to attend Freaknik, so he would just hang outside in the parking lot and just pass out his tapes. And that’s pretty much how Shanti said they broke OutKast, because they had these tapes that they were passing out, and then people were playing them in their cars. Because there was nowhere to go, you couldn’t move. (Laughs) So they would pop the tape in and they were just riding up and down the street and people were bumping OutKast.

Jay: And these are people that are legends now, like Shanti. Yeah, she’s one of the biggest women in music entertainment. Kasim Reed was just an early law student then, and Kasim is literally explaining to us how the government was working back then. One thing that didn’t make it to the documentary that was super interesting is how important Southwest Atlanta was to all of this coming together. And it was a really incredible story. Because Shanti, Kasim – there’s a group of mayors that all come from Southwest Atlanta. And they really just broke down the story. So you’re literally seeing the people that are the biggest leaders in their industries—from music to executives to politics—really be at the forefront of what Freaknik was and what it became.

HipHopWired: Building off of that, how happy are you guys with the reception that you’ve gotten so far with this documentary, showing such a cultural moment for Atlanta and the South overall?

Terry: I always say this: Atlanta wouldn’t be Atlanta without Freaknik. It would not be the same. Freaknik made Atlanta what it is today. Hands down, no doubt. Because people came from all over the country to Atlanta and then stayed. So you started getting a bunch of Black people from different parts of the country that came down and started having their own record labels. We built our record label out of Atlanta, we had a record label called Noontime.

We had Jazze Pha, Brian Michael Cox, Ciara and Latoya Luckett. All of these people came from us. And then you had the LaFace standard, and you had So So Def, and then you had Dallas Austin. And then you had the Dungeon Family. Freaknik started flourishing because of all of the different people that were coming into Atlanta and getting that culture because that was a whole different culture down there than any other city.

HipHopWired: If there is one – you can narrow it down to one – what was your all-time favorite moment making this film?

Nikki: My favorite moment, all-time favorite was Clay Evans. Getting his interview and talking to him about his time at Freaknik. I wish we could have just shown his whole interview. How he acted; y’all he acted so crazy that day of filming. He wouldn’t let anybody talk to him. I was the only one allowed to talk to him. Nobody else can look him in the face. Everybody refers to him in the third person. (Laughs) Yeah, he sent me a two-page rider and let me know that he wanted oysters, but he’s the only one that does the shucking. I provided nothing. I gave him juice. And you have a good day.

Terry: We can’t leave out a very important partner. And that’s Alex Avant who was Clarence Avant’s son. I’m good friends with him. Alex was instrumental in bringing Hulu to the table. So, Alex saw the vision as well.

Jay: And to piggyback on what TR said, my favorite moment of the film is not even a film. What people don’t know is with me, Nikki and TR, other people are in the mix. For me, Nikki and TR are on the frontlines of this. And people know what we went through just putting together materials to pitch, to talk to people to get them convinced, to tap into his entire network, TR tapping into his entire network. And to see the big billboards in LA and New York and everywhere else off the idea that we were literally sitting with, like looking at each other like, “Are we crazy? Is this is a good idea?”

We’re at South by Southwest and we all look at the crowd like, “Oh, we did it.” That’s the moment for me that I was just like…you can’t let people tell you that you’re crazy. We did get rejection letters from people, people who told us that this wasn’t relevant and nobody cared about it. So to have a billboard in Times Square in the middle of a promotion that broke the internet? It just makes me appreciate these people on this call. I know we believe in ourselves and we kept pushing from day one. Never, never hesitated. And we should give some love to Tamara Knetchel. Tam connected us, she’s an unsung hero.

Erykah Badu Accuses Beyoncé of Swagger Jacking Her Hairstyle, The Beyhive Reacts

Erykah Badu Accuses Beyoncé of Jacking Her Hairstyle

Source: Andreas Rentz / Getty / Erykah Badu / Beyoncé

The Beyhive has had enough of Erykah Badu coming for their queen Beyoncé.

Erykah Badu is feeling the sting of Beyoncé’s fans after she accused the Houston singer of swagger jacking again.

The “Bag Lady” singer took to her Instagram Stories to insinuate that her fellow Texas native bit her hairstyle on the alternate cover of her upcoming album, Act ii: Cowboy Carter.

Badu’s claims came on Wednesday, March 20, after Beyoncé shared the alternate cover to her new album. On it, the “Take My Soul” crafter is naked, covered by a sass saying “act ii BEYINCÉ,” while rocking braided hair with beaded bangs and holding a lit cigar.

In her post, Badu reposted the photo with the caption, “Hmmm.”

The hive, as expected, did not care for Badu accusing Beyoncé of biting her style. Badu hilariously hopped on X, formerly Twitter, asking for help from Beyoncé’s husband JAY-Z, of all people, writing in the post, “To JAY-Z. Say somethin Jay. You gone let this woman and these bees do this to me??”

Erykah Badu Has A History of Calling Beyoncé Out

This is not the first time Badu has claimed she has served as an uncredited style inspiration for Beyoncé. She also called out Beyoncé for biting her style regarding the hats worn during her performance.

During her Renaissance World Tour, Beyoncé wore metallic wide-brimmed hats during her performances, something Badu was also known for.

In that post, Badu also wrote “Hmmm” underneath a picture of Beyoncé and then shared a photo of herself wearing a hat during a similar performance, writing, “I guess I’m everyone’s stylist. favorite chrome mirror hat.”

Beyoncé seemingly saw the disrespect, and during a tour stop in Massachusetts, she had some time for Badu, replacing the lyrics on the “Break My Soul” (The Queens Remix)” saying “Badu, Badu, Badu, Badu,” instead of Badu, Lizzo, Kelly Rowl.”

Well, the Beyhive has seen and heard enough and is currently dragging Badu.

You Care: Marcus Jordan & Larsa Pippen Aren’t On Speaking Terms After Latest Break Up

Celebrity Sightings In Paris - January 22, 2024

Source: MEGA / Getty

For a minute there not too long ago it seemed like the unlikely holy union between Micheal Jordan’s son, Marcus, and Scottie Pippen’s ex-wife, Larsa was inevitable. But now the two aren’t just broken up, but apparently they aren’t even on speaking terms.

According to TMZ, Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen are on the total outs these days as the two have been broken up for weeks and don’t seem to be reconciling anytime soon. The breakup took many of their followers by surprise as the surprise “sports” couple even teased a possible wedding just last year only for them to ultimately go their separate ways as many (including Michael Jordan himself) disapproved of their relationship.

Per TMZ:

The two had a pretty rocky romance … and ultimately, they decided it was time to call it a day. With that being said, it’s impossible to say for sure we’ll never see these two together again … especially considering their track record of being on and off.

We’re told 49-year-old Larsa and Marcus, 33, haven’t been on speaking terms since the split … and they’re both focused on doing their own thing.

The signs were there — Larsa and Marcus unfollowed each other recently … and the oft-paparazzi’d duo haven’t been shot in public together in weeks.Of course, many considered the coupling to be a bit odd — Michael and Scottie have had a longstanding feud after winning six NBA championships together with the Chicago Bulls … and Larsa is a decade and a half older than Marcus.

You have to wonder what was the straw that broke the camel’s back in the relationship. Could it have been Marcus Jordan’s shady business practices when it comes to his exclusive sneakers? (Yeah, we still salty about that, b). Maybe his iconic father threatened to cut him off if he went through with the marriage? Who knows.

Still, we’re sure the two will eventually land on their feet as Larsa’s about to have a gang of wealthy men flood her DM’s to gauge her interest in moving on while Marcus will no doubt entice another woman with his family name. They’ll be aight.
