“Keep Us Down” is the newest record from singer/producer Johnny Burgos who takes time to reflect on the current state of affairs in the US of A.
The self-produced record has a very organic and soulful texture with its lush guitars, laidback groove, and warm basslines. Burgos goes for a different style on this one and delivers his verses in a melodic rap style which actually added strength to the message being conveyed. As an artist, Burgos knows he has to reflect the times in his music but how to do it is another story entirely. The track doesn’t seem forced and truly showcases his versatility across the board. The topic is something that needed to be captured on wax and Burgos definitely adds his voice to the protest with this excellent addition.
“Keep Us Down” also features guitarist Keenan McRae and keyboardist Devaughn “Day Day” Denegall.
